Clark Art Institute presents works by Haitian-American artist Kathia St. Hilaire
WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.- Featuring nearly twenty new and recent works that combine printmaking, painting, collage, and weaving, the Clark Art Institute presents Haitian-American artist Kathia St. Hilaire in its latest contemporary exhibition. Kathia St. Hilaire: Invisible Empires is on view May 11 through September 22, 2024 in the galleries of the Lunder Center at Stone Hill. A version of the exhibition will go on view at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky from October 25, 2024 through February 9, 2025. National Museum of African American History and Culture displays space devoted to Black design
WASHINGTON, DC.- The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture opened a new space in its Visual Arts Gallery. “Reclaiming My Time,” the first exhibition in the space devoted to contemporary Black designers opened Friday, May 31. “Reclaiming My Time” features chairs and other work by designers who engage with ideas related to rest, repose and histories of labor and leisure. The space includes 15 objects from the museum’s collection, spanning seating, lighting, photography and graphic design. Scientists find the largest known genome inside a small plant
NEW YORK, NY.- Last year, Jaume Pellicer led a team of fellow scientists into a forest on Grande Terre, an island east of Australia. They were in search of a fern called Tmesipteris oblanceolata. Standing just a few inches tall, it was not easy to find on the forest floor. “It doesn’t catch the eye,” said Pellicer, who works at the Botanical Institute of Barcelona in Spain. “You would probably step on it and not even realize it.” The scientists eventually managed to spot the nondescript fern. When Pellicer and his colleagues studied it in the lab, they discovered it held an extraordinary secret. Tmesipteris oblanceolata has the largest known genome on Earth.
